Kent Junior League Final

On Saturday the 19th November, Bromley's juniors competed in the final round of the Kent Junior League. After tying for first place with Dover in the first round, and coming first in the second round, Bromley's hopes for promotion to Division One were high.

Bromley's performance on the night didn't disappoint. Earning a total of 256 points Bromley won the gala by a massive 60 points, with Dover coming second, followed by Dartford, Greenwich Borough Mariners and Saxon Crown. Having won the gala giving them the most overall league points Bromley have earned promotion to division one. This will mean that next year we will be against the five best junior teams in Kent and we will have our work cut out for us!

Congratulations to those swimmers who won their races: Theo Haslam, Alex Cheeseman, Tanglin Ireland, Emma Wade, Lilly Dabin, Michael Eagling, Louisa Knight, Taylor McCarthy, Matt Rogers, Nicole Bambroffe and Natalie French.

National Arena Swimming League- Round III

Bromley Swimming Club defied all odds this year and once again broke club history by becoming Division One champions of the National Arena Swimming League. The competition, which is split into three rounds, is as the name suggests a nationwide gala and includes the best swimming clubs across the country. This year Bromley was competing in Division-One-East of the South league.

After being promoted to Division One last year and finishing 6th overall out of the 18 teams in the division, Bromley hoped to once again make the top final. After coming 2nd in round one and then 1st in round two Bromley earned their place in the top final and were placed in joint second position with Chelmsford, Croydon Amphibians and Black Lion. In the last round the top 2 teams of the top final earn promotion, so the competition was high.
It was once again a close run gala, with Bromley in second place at the first announcement, but soon taking the lead and then managing to hold on to the first place position right until the end. This was an outstanding achievement as the teams we were up against would widely be considered our superiors, but it seems our team is going from strength to strength and we are now a premiership team.

Congratulations to the whole team for their excellent efforts and team spirit. There were some truly amazing performances, with PBs and club records being set left, right and centre. Well done to you all.
Bromley will now be facing the very best teams in the whole of the South of England, and we will have to fight to stay up in this league. We have 10 months until the first round- get training!

Arena League Round II (nov 2011)

On Saturday 12th November, Bromley's Arena League team arrived at Crook Log to compete in the second of the three rounds of the league. Having come second in the first round Bromley was in with a fighting chance of making the A final in the third round should they come second or higher in the second round. However, with tough competition from Chelmsford who beat Bromley's team last year by a long way and Crawley who were only demoted from the premier league last year, as well as Elmbridge Phoenix, Dartford and Maidstone, it was always going to be a battle.

It was a very close run and exciting gala, with the teams regularly changing positions. But Bromley soon took a firm hold of first position and held on to it with both hands throughout the gala, managing to win overall by just one point.

Final scores were as follows:
Bromley - 201
Chelmsford- 200
Elmbridge- 196
Crawley- 190
Maidstone- 133
Dartford- 128

Well done to the whole team for a brilliant result. Coming first will guarantee Bromley a place in the A-final for the last round.

Congratulations to those swimmers who achieved a top 3 finish: Ben Kelleher, Theo Haslam, Gabby Conroy, Louisa Knight, Matthew Rogers, Oliver Lister, Holly Wylie, Joe Erb, Vicky Ward, Tanglin Ireland, Sean Perfect, Felix Haslam and Alex Cheeseman.

Well done to those swimmers who achieved a personal best time: Tanglin Ireland, Ben Kelleher, Chloe Dobb, Matthew Rogers and Gabby Conroy.

Special congratulations to the Girls 9-11 Medley Relay for breaking their relay club record: Alex Cheeseman, Emma Wade, Lilly Dabin, Francesca Powell. As well as the 13/u girls who broke their own medley relay club record by a mighty 0.07 seconds: Louisa Knight, Taylor McCarthy, Chloe Dobb and Natalie French.

Thank you to all of our helpers and supporters for being there, you really make a difference. Special thanks to Henri Shorter, Heather Perfect, Nicola Kleist, Georgi Ward and Lily Wylie for coming along to cheer on the team and thank you to our Uni swimmers Oliver Lister and Sean Perfect for coming back from university to be part of the team.

Arena league (oct 2011)

On Saturday 9th October Bromley competed in the first of three rounds of the National Arena Swimming League. Having been promoted to division one after winning the title of undefeated champions of division two last year, we were facing much tougher competition with two of the top 10 in Kent teams and one of the best teams from Essex, and we were unsure what to expect.

It was a very close-run gala with some exciting races but we managed to maintain a second place position from start to finish. The team performed brilliantly with 11 first place finishes, five second place finishes and 10 third place finishes out of 50 events. We also had 17 personal best performances, one new club record and four new relay club records.

Well done to everyone who competed and to those who put so much effort into supporting their team mates.

Special congratulations to those who achieved individual first place finishes: Theo Haslam, Tanglin Ireland, Ben Kelleher and James Brinkley.

Congratulations also go to our relay teams- it just goes to show how important every member of a relay team is as 6 of our 11 first places came from relays. Our new relay club records go to: Boys' 15/u Medley team and Freestyle team (Ben Kelleher, Ethan Reeves, Matthew Brown, Richard Knight), Girls' 13/u Medley team (VIcky Ward, Ellen Scholes, Chloe Dobb, Isobel Vowles), and the Men's Squadron (James Brinkley, Oliver Lister, John Furness, Sean Perfect, Oliver Reynolds, Richard Knight).

Well done to those of you who achieved pbs: Oliver Reynolds, Phoebe Hampson, Tanglin Ireland, Ellen Scholes, Nicola Kleist, Natalie French, Vicky Ward, Heather Perfect, Robert Shorter, Chloe Dobb, Henrietta Shorter, Ben Kelleher, Oliver Lister (+ Club record), Gabby Eastment and Ethan Reeves.

Thank you to everyone who came along to support. We look forward to seeing you all at round 2 in November.

Kent Junior League Round II

The second round of the Kent Junior League took place on the 10th of September, and the team and its many supporters travelled down to Dover to try and win the gala outright (having tied for first position in the first round).

A slightly depleted Bromley team (after a broken leg and other unforeseen circumstances) took on Dover, GBM, Dartford and Saxon Crown, and they led from start to finish and won the gala overall with an impressive 32 point lead over the second place team.

The performance was massively improved from round I and there were some truly excellent races. The gala saw 21 personal best swims and 22 first place finishes.

The vast majority of swimmers achieved a top 3 finish so well done to the whole team. First places came from: Alex Cheeseman, Emma Wade, Matthew Rogers, Lilly Dabin, Michael Eagling, Louisa Knight, Joe Dobb, Charlotte Doyle, Felix Haslam, Nicole Bambroffe, Theo Haslam and Robert Shorter.

Congratulations to those of you who achieved a personal best time: Alex Cheeseman, Joe Dobb, Matthew Rogers, Lilly Dabin, Hugo Charuy, Phoebe Hampson, Francesca Powell, Michael Eagling, Lily Wylie, Charlotte Doyle, Luc Hoolahan, Taylor McCarthy, Matthew Ruiz, Robert Shorter and Katherine Taylor.

Chris Bassi Trophy Gala

On Saturday 24th September Bromley competed in the Chris Bassi Trophy Gala at Tunbridge Wells. The team faced tough competition once again in the form of Orpington Ojays, RTW Monson, Sevenoaks and Gravesend and Northleet.

Bromley rose to the challenge and achieved a win by eight points, with Orpington in second place and Monson in third.

The team did brilliantly, and the majority of swimmers achieved a top 3 finish. First place finishes were earned by Benedict Kelleher, Felix Haslam, Theo Haslam, Holly Wylie and Matthew Rogers.

Special congratulations to those of you who did a personal best performance: Holly Wylie, Ben Kelleher, Alex Cheeseman, Felix Haslam, Joe Erb, Lilly Dabin, Robert Shorter, Theo Haslam, Phoebe Hampson,  Chloe Dobb and Sean Perfect.

We also had two club records broken, well done to Holly Wylie for taking the club record for the 100m IM, and to the Girls' 9-11 4x50m Medley Relay team (Alex Cheeseman, Phoebe Hampson, Lilly Dabin, Charlotte Doyle) for breaking their own relay club record.

This was a tough gala with a great result. We will be facing Orpington and Monson again at the first round of Arena League, it will be interesting to see if we can have a repeat performance.

Hello Swimmers,

Joann reminded me about the Dartford District gala and told me that some of our relay records were broken there, so I've adjusted them. The 4x25 relay records tend to stand for a long time because we don't do them very often so well done to the boy's 13/u 4x25 freestyle team, the girl's 15/u 4x25 freestyle team and the men's 4x25 freestyle team.

Dave

--

Hello swimmers,

I forgot to check which relay records were broken at the KJL on Saturday.

Congratulations, we took the girl's 13/u 4x50, the girl's 11/u 4x25 Medley and freestyle, and the Boy's 4x25 freestyle relay records. One or two of those have stood for quite a few years so it's nice to get another old record updated.

Good work team, let's try and improve on those times before the end of the year and set some more long standing records.

Kent Championships Gala 4

On Sunday 20th February the second weekend of the Kent Championships got underway. This weekend saw 14 personal best swims and Bromley earned another 42 points to add to their championship campaign.

Congratulations to those who achieved a top six finish and so earned their team points:

Theo Haslam achieved a first place in his age group 50 Breaststroke in a personal best time as well as coming second in his age group 100 Backstroke and third in his age group 200 Freestyle also in in a PB.

Two further third places were achieved by Ben Kelleher in the 200 IM (in which he also achieved a 6th place in the Junior age group) and the 50 Freestyle both of which were personal bests.

Fourth places were achieved by Matthew Rogers in the 50 Breaststroke and Felicity Hamilton-Cox in the 50 Backstroke.

The Men's 4 x 100 Freestyle Relay team consisting of James Brinkley, Ben Kelleher, Oliver Reynolds and Sean Perfect also came fourth breaking the old club record by almost six seconds.

James Brinkley came 5th in his age group 100 Butterfly in a personal best time, as well as in the 50 Freestyle. He also made the Men's Open final for the 50 Freestyle coming 6th overall.

Joe Dobb also achieved a 5th place in the 200 Freestyle in a personal best time and Felicity Hamilton-Cox also came 5th in her age group 50 Butterfly.

Special congratulations to those who achieved a PB, including those above as well as Vicky Ward who achieved a personal best in the 200 Freestyle, and Richard Knight, James Lockwood, Nick Lockwood, Alex Lister and Oliver Lister who all achieved a PB in the 50 Freestyle.

Well done also to John Furness and Oliver Reynolds who swam in the 50 Freestyle and Holly Barnes who swam in the 50 Backstroke and 50 Butterfly.

Kent Championships Gala 2

Saturday 12th February saw a very successful opening weekend to the 2011 Kent Championships. With nine personal best swims, one new club record and a total of 59 points amassed from 17 events, Bromley swimmers came out fighting.

Special congratulations to those swimmers with a top six finish who earned their team points:

James Brinkley made his first Kent final in the 100 Backstroke, coming 5th in the open age-group and 3rd in the 17/18 age-group. He also achieved a 5th place in his age-group 200 Freestyle and just missed out on the top six in the 50 breaststroke, where he came 7th. James swam PBs in all three events.

Oliver Lister earned his place again in the Open 50 Breaststroke final, having swum a PB in the heat and coming 1st in his age-group. He came fourth in the Open age-group.

Ben Kelleher just missed out on 6th place in the 50 Breaststroke in a PB time. He also competed in the 100 Backstroke where he came 2nd in his age-group. Unfortunately he was unavailable for the Open final which would have secured his 3rd place in the Junior age-group as well as gaining him points in the Open age-group.

Theo Haslam earned a 3rd place in the 200 Breaststroke, and was crowned county champion for the 100 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle. He performed PBs in both the Breaststroke and the Freestyle.

Matthew Rogers came 3rd in the 200 Breaststroke, swimming an excellent 8 second PB. He also competed in the 50m Freestyle.

Felicity Hamilton-Cox competed in the 100 IM as well as the 200 Breaststroke in which she came 1st in her age-group and 3rd in the open age-group.

The Men's Open Medley team broke Bromley SC history by finishing in second place. The team, comprising of Ben Kelleher, Oliver Lister, Sean Perfect and James Brinkley, also broke the club record, making them the fastest Men's Open Medley team in Bromley's history. Well done men.

Congratulations to all of those who achieved a personal best, including those of you who are mentioned above as well as: Victoria Ward who swam a 3 second PB in the 100 Backstroke, Holly Barnes in the 100 Fly and Chloe Dobb, whose personal best in the 400 Free was also a London Regional qualifying time.

Finally, well done to James Lockwood and John Furness who also represented the club in the 50 Breaststroke.

A great weekend for all our swimmers, you did yourselves and Bromley proud. Let's keep it up for the rest of the championships.

Brighton Open Meet Report

On the weekend of 14th/15th January, several Bromley swimmers travelled down to Brighton to compete in the Brighton Open.

It is always useful to enter a competition at around this time to 'blow out the cobwebs', get some good race practice before Kent's, and for some of our swimmers it was their last opportunity to achieve a County Championship qualifying time.

Every single swimmer who competed achieved a personal best time.

Alex Din competed in 100 Free (PB), 100 Back, 100 Fly, 200 Back (PB) and 200 IM (PB).

Chloe Dobb competed in 100 Free (PB), 100 Back (PB) and 200 IM where she achieved a four second personal best time.

Felicity Hamilton-Cox swam a 2 second PB in the 200 Breaststroke coming 1st and also competed in the 100 Free.

Tanglin Ireland competed in the 200 IM where he swam a 7 second PB and also achieved his Kent qualifying time.

Heather Perfect swam in the 100 Free, 100 Fly and 50 Free where she achieved a PB.

Ethan Reeves swam a PB in both the 100 Free and 50 Free and also competed in the 100 Br/s.

Ellen Scholes competed in 100 Breaststroke and swam a 2 second PB in the 200 IM.

Georgina Ward achieved a PB in all three of her events; 50 Free, 200 Free (where she swam a 9 second PB) and 200 Breaststroke (which was a 16 second PB).

Vicky Ward competed in the 100 Free where she took 4th place, 100 Back, 200 Free, 200 IM and 50 Free where she swam a PB and also came 4th which automatically qualified her for the Skins event.

The Skins event involves the 6 fastest 50 freestylers racing over 5 lots of 50 metres freestyle every 90 seconds. After each 50 metres the slowest swimmer of the 6 competing is 'knocked out of the competition'. The Skins event is a very exciting and difficult event for which the swimmers need to be very skilled. Vicky did excellently coming 5th overall, with both 50s being very close to her PB.

It was a very enjoyable weekend and it was great to see our swimmers doing so well at this time of year. Well done to everyone who swam.

As you can see Open meets are a great way to swim events you don't normally enter and to keep your times up-to-date. Please look out for
emails/information on the notice board about Open meets that you may be eligible to compete in.

Whitehorse League

Saturday the 21st January saw the first round of six galas that make up the Whitehorse League. Bromley faced Orpington Ojays, Beckenham, Saxon Crown, Erith and District and White Oak, with a team that included new team members from our younger age groups.

There were several excellent performances and the team looked the strongest it has ever done at a Whitehorse gala. Special congratulations to those of you who achieved PB swims: Joe Dobb, Theo Haslam, Matthew Knight, Lilly Dabin, Alexander Din, George Carter, Alex Cheeseman and Ellen Scholes. Also well done to the Men's Open Medley Relay team (Ben Kelleher, Oliver Lister, James Brinkley and Richard Knight) for breaking the relay club record.

Overall Bromley came second by just 11 points, an excellent start to the league. Well done to everyone who competed and let's keep up the hard work in training for the next round which will take place on 2nd April.

JANUARY 2011 - national arena league round 3

On 11th December Bromley’s Arena league team travelled to Medway Park to compete in the final round of the league. Having made the top-six gala Bromley faced very tough competition from some big teams: Epsom District, Thanet, Croydon Amphibians, Chelmsford and Atlantis.

Despite this Bromley managed some excellent performances, with 13 1st-3rd places and five personal best swims.

Although the other teams proved too strong for us on the night, it was an excellent chance to see what we’re up against and what we need to aim for to improve our position next year. And in this case sixth place in Division one (out of a total of 18 teams) was something to be proud of, as it’s highest position Bromley Swimming Club has ever achieved.

Special congratulations to those of you who achieved a personal best time: Felicity Hamilton-Cox, Phoebe Hampson, Tanglin Ireland, Emma Wade and Matthew Rogers.

Thank you to all our supporters and to those swimmers who have attended any or all of the three rounds just to cheer on your teammates. You’re all very much appreciated and the team wouldn’t do as well without you. For this round in particular thank you to Lucy Morgan, Megan Barnes and Louisa Knight.

Well done to all our team members, I hope you enjoyed being part of this record breaking team and are set to work hard and do it all again but better in 2011.

november 2010 - kent junior league & national arena league round 2

Kent Junior League

On Saturday 20th November Bromley's junior swimmers took centre stage in the final round of the Kent Junior League 2010.

Having won the previous two rounds Bromley SC was in a strong position and looked set for promotion should they manage to repeat their previous performances, and they didn't disappoint.

With 15 first place finishes, 16 second place finishes and 7 third place finishes out of 51 events Bromley led the way convincingly from start to end. Gaining 234 gala points, Bromley finished the league with a total of 661 gala points (our closest rival being Maidstone with 557) and we achieved a full house of 18 league points after winning all three rounds meaning promotion to division two next year.

Well done to all swimmers who were part of this very special promotional team. Your team spirit was excellent throughout the rounds and there were some great swims. You thoroughly deserve this victory.

Special congratulations to those of you who achieved a personal best on the night: Vicky Ward, Theo Haslam, Emma Wade, Michael Eagling, Taylor McCarthy, Ellie Quinn, Robert Shorter, Chloe Dobb, Matthew Ruiz, Natalie French, Louisa Knight, Grace Scopes, Alexander Din and Felix Haslam.

Hats off to all of the 11/u relay teams who took the whole set of 4x25m records:

Ellie Quinn, Emma Wade, Natalie French and Alexandra Cheeseman took the 4x25m Medley record by over a second.
Natalie French, Francesca Powell, Ellie Quinn, and Alexandra Cheeseman took the 4x25m Freestyle record by just under a second.

Robert Shorter, Matthew Rogers, Isaac Korro and George Adam took the 4x25m Medley record by almost four seconds!
George Adam, Isaac Korro, Michael Eagling and Robert Shorter then took the 4x25m Freestyle record by over 2 seconds.

Many thanks go to our club captains and members of top squad who attended to support the junior swimmers: Holly Barnes, Richard Knight, Henri Shorter and Megan Barnes, and to all the support from the balcony.

Photos of the evening are available on our website gallery.

Arena League: Round II

Bromley SC took part in the second round of the National Arena league on Saturday 13th November at Tunbridge Wells. Again we faced tough competition including two of the very best teams in Kent (Black Lion and RTW Monson) as well as Epsom (one of the best teams from Surrey), Elmbridge Phoenix, and 1066.

There are three rounds to the Arena league. The results of the first two rounds dictate what happens in the third round. In the first two rounds each team acquires not only gala points to decide the rankings of the gala, but league points, i.e. if you win a gala you get six league points, if you come 6th in a gala you win 1 league point. The third round of the league is split into three galas, the promotional gala (where the top two teams are promoted to the above division), the demotion gala (where the bottom two teams are demoted) and the middle gala. The promotional gala consists of the top 6 teams in the division, i.e. the teams who acquire the most league points in the first two rounds.

You may remember that, having only just been promoted to division one, Bromley gained an excellent second place in the first round in October, winning 5 league points. We therefore knew we were in with a long shot of getting into the promotional gala, depending on our performance in the second round.

Round two got off to an excellent start with two new relay club records for the 15/u Boys Freestyle relay and the Men's Open Medley relay. Natalie French swam excellently and broke two Junior Girls' club records in the 50 'fly and the 50 free'. And to finish it all off the 15/u Boys and Men's Open team broke the Medley relay and Freestyle squadron records respectively. Very well done to Ben Kelleher, Ethan Reeves, Matthew Brown, Richard Knight, James Brinkley, Oliver Lister, John Furness, Sean Perfect, Oliver Reynolds and of course Natalie.

There were also 13 personal best performances; well done to Phoebe Hampson, Robert Shorter, Ben Kelleher, Natalie French, Tanglin Ireland, Emma Wade, Chloe Dobb, Theo Haslam, Matthew Knight and Gabby Eastment.

It was an extremely close run gala, with the three and sometimes even four middle teams battling it out furiously for 2nd place. At the end of the gala we came 3rd, missing out on 2nd place by just two points. However in coming third after a very respectable performance, we totaled 9 league points overall which was enough to get us through to the promotional gala and makes us one of the top 6 teams in division one. This is the highest position Bromley has achieved in as long as anyone can remember and means we'll be competing against some truly great teams in the final round.

Well done to everyone who competed, you all swam admirably, supported your teammates excellently and did your club proud.

Thank you also to those who attended purely to cheer, and to our support from the balcony. The more people we have behind us, the further we'll go.

October 2010 - whiteoak open, National arena league & kent junior league

whiteoak open - october 2010

On the 3rd of October four Bromley swimmers competed in the White Oak Open and achieved some excellent results. Felix Haslam competed in the 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle, coming first in the butterfly and freestyle, joint first in the backstroke and second place in the breaststroke. Felix also swam PBs in three of his four events, a great achievement. Louisa Knight achieved a very credible 3rd place in the 100m Butterfly. Matthew Knight competed in the 100m Freestyle and finished in sixth place with a personal best time. Finally Richard Knight competed in the 100m Freestyle and the 100m IM achieving a second and third place respectively.

Well done to all four swimmers for doing so well this early on in the season.

National Arena League

Kent Junior League

Bromley took part in the second of three rounds of the Kent Junior League. Having won the first round we hoped to perform equally well as if we win all three rounds we will be guaranteed promotion to division one.

Some exciting relays and excellent individual performances gave us 16 1st place finishes, 11 2nd place finishes and 11 3rd place finishes out of 49 events, which was enough to secure first position overall by over 20 points. After the first two rounds we are 49 points ahead of the second place position, currently held by White Oak. The final round will take place in November, when we will again face White Oak, Maidstone, Margate, Edenbridge, and Ashford.

Particular congratulations go to those who achieved a first place in their individual event: Grace Scopes, Matthew Rogers, Isobel Vowles, Alex Din, Theo Haslam and Vicky Ward. Well done also to those swimmers who achieved a personal best time: Michael Eagling, Chloe Dobb, Robert Shorter, Jade Hewitt, Joel Woodward, Ellen Scholes, Rachel Peares, Matthew Rogers, Isobel Vowles, Alex Din.

Thank you to all swimmers for your excellent team spirit and the effort you put into these galas. Let’s keep up the good work.

A report has been sent to the News Shopper, and although they cannot guarantee us anything in print they have said we will appear on their website, so keep your eyes peeled.

Well done everyone.

Thanet open meet - july 2010

Six swimmers took part in the Thanet Open on the 10th July. It was a separated medley event where all swimmers were required to swim either 50m (for the 10 & unders) or 100m (for the over 10s) of each stroke. The aggregate scores were then counted and the top 6 swimmers in each age group went through to the final where they had to swim either 100m or 200m IM.

Well done to all six swimmers, Tanglin Ireland, Robert Shorter, Alex Din, Vicky Ward, Nicola Kleist and Henrietta Shorter for braving all four strokes. Every swimmer achieved at least one significant PB so it was worth the effort.

Tanglin Ireland came first in all four of his 50m swims and went through to the final to win the 100m IM. Robert Shorter came 4th in his freestyle and breaststroke and 5th in his backstroke, and completed a 200m IM coming 5th in the final. Alex Din achieved three 3rd places and a 4th and came 4th overall in the 200m IM final. Nicola Kleist, competing in her first ever open meet, did very well coming 6th in the 200m IM final in a personal best time and Henri Shorter went through to the 200m IM final and achieved 5th place.

A very successful weekend for you all and very enjoyable for me to see you swimming strokes you might not normally swim. Well done to you all.

London Sprints - july 2010

London Sprints took place on the 11th July at Crystal Palace. This was a level 3 open giving swimmers a chance to race all four strokes over 50m. Bromley was represented by 10 swimmers in 26 events achieving a 73% PB rate and with 77% of swims being a top 8 finish.

Congratulations to those of you with a top 8 finish: Theo Haslam (2nd 50m Fly, 2nd 50m Breast’, 4th 50m Back’, 5th 50m Free’), Felicity Hamilton-Cox (1st 50m Breast’, 3rd 50m Back’, 7th 50m Free’, 8th 50m ‘Fly), Vicky Ward (3rd 50m Back’, 7th 50m Free’, 8th 50m ‘Fly, 8th 50m Breast’), James Brinkley (2nd 50m ‘Fly, 2nd 50m Back’, 8th 50m Breast’), Oliver Reynolds (3rd 50m Back’, 5th 50m Breast’, 5th 50m Fly), Oliver Lister (3rd 50m Breast’) and Abbie Regelous (4th 50m Breast’).

Well done also to those of you who swam PBs: Richard Knight, Oliver Lister, Oliver Reynolds, Chloe Dobb, Louisa Knight, Vicky Ward, Theo Haslam, Felicity Hamilton-Cox and James Brinkley.

I hope you all enjoyed the competition and were pleased with your end of season swims.

London BAGCATS - july 2010

The London British Age Group Categories took place on the first and second weekend of June at Crystal Palace and this year Bromley had 3 swimmers competing.

The weekends saw Ethan Reeves competing in his first regional competition, a major achievement that shows a vast improvement in his times over the past year. Ethan is a perfect example of what you can achieve if you have the determination and put in the effort in training. He competed in the 100m Free and achieved a time of 1.02.9, smashing his entry time by nearly a second, and narrowly missing the personal best time he set the previous week at Beckenham Open.

Theo Haslam also competed with great success, swimming in seven events over the course of the competition: 100m & 200m Butterfly, 200m Backstroke, 100m & 200m Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle and 200m IM. Theo achieved PBs in 6 of these 7 events (again just missing the personal best time he set the previous week in the 100m Breaststroke at Beckenham Open), and also made the final in both the 100m and 200m Butterfly coming third and eighth respectively.

Vicky Ward was our sole representative from the junior girls and competed to a high standard in three events: 100m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and 200m IM achieving a personal best time in her 100m Freestyle.

Overall a successful weekend for our swimmers; all three of them show our younger swimmers what can be achieved. It would be great to see more of our junior swimmers meeting the qualifying times for the regional championships. For those of you with Kent times, this is the next step up so talk to your coach about how you can achieve these qualification times. Well done again to Ethan, Theo and Vicky.

JUNE 2010 - Black Lion, Whitehorse, Masters & Kent Junior League

Kent MASTERS Championships

This year we had one lonely soul competing at the Kent Masters championships but he did us all proud.

Our new recruit Damian Locascio competed in his age group 50 'fly, 100 IM and 50 free', winning all three events.

Most notably, Damian took the county record for the 40-44 years 50 'fly in 28.36, smashing the old record of 28.80 which has stood since 1993.

It would be great to try to get a bigger masters presence there next year! If you know any keen adult swimmers who are looking to train or compete, please point them our way.

Report by David Court (June 2010)

WHITEHORSE LEAGUE

On Saturday evening we turned in our best performance of the year in this league, still coming third but only missing the top spot by 11 points. It was a very close gala.

Well done to the large number of you who performed pbs on the night under hideously hot circumstances: Ellen Scholes, Theo Haslam, Nicola Kleist, Richard Knight, Natalie French, Tanglin Ireland, Alex Din, Heather Perfect, Chloe Dobb, Henri Shorter, Cameron Butler, Gabby Eastment, and Gina Deave.

A special congratulations to Oliver Lister and James Brinkley who both lowered their own club records after having spent a long day competing up at Crystal Palace and still turning out for the team in the evening. Well done chaps.

Report by David Court (June 2010)

Kent Junior League

Bromley got off to an excellent start at this year's Kent Junior League by winning the first of three rounds beating Maidstone, White Oak, Margate, Edenbridge and Ashford.

It was a very exciting gala with some excellent swims and really good team spirit from you all. Overall we won 17 races and achieved 19 personal best performances.

Well done to those of you who won your individual races: Theo Haslam (12/u 100 'Fly, 13/u 100 Breast', 13/u 100 'Fly), Alex Din (12/u 100 Back', 12/u 100 Free'), Natalie French (11/u 50 Back'), Grace Scopes (10 yrs 50 Breast'), Matthew Rogers (10 yrs 50 Breast'), Chloe Dobb (12/u 100 Free').

Well done also to those relay teams who got us those all important first places: Boys 9/10 yrs Medley relay, Girls 12/u Medley relay, Boys 12/u Medley relay, Girls 12/u Freestyle relay, Boys 12/u Freestyle relay, Boys 9/10 yrs Freestyle relay, Boys 13/u Medley relay.

A big congratulations to those of you who achieved PBs: Ellie Quinn, Isaac Korro, Emily Norris, Tanglin Ireland, Taylor McCarthy, Jade Hewitt, Alex Dinn, Chloe Dobb, Natalie French, Vicky Ward, Cameron Butler, Grace Scopes, Theo Haslam. It's brilliant to see so many of you improving your times.

If we can maintain this level of performance at the next gala we will really be in with a chance for promotion in the league. Black Lion Open Meet

On the 22nd/23rd May Bromley Swimming Club took part in the Black Lion Open Meet. This was a level 2 open meet and an excellent opportunity for some of our younger and less experienced swimmers to get some race practice as well as for our older swimmers who missed out on competing in the London Regional Championships or Beckenham open meet in the preceding weeks. 18 swimmers from Bromley competed in 48 events with a very respectable 54% of those swims being PBs.

It was good to see so many of the younger swimmers taking part and trying new events. Well done to all of our young swimmers; Joe Dobb, Michael Eagling, Phoebe Hampson, Felix Haslam and Joel Woodward.

PB achievers were: Alex Din, Cameron Butler, Chloe Dobb, Ellen Scholes, Felix Haslam, Jade Hewitt, Joe Dobb, Katie Lockwood, Michael Eagling, Nick Lockwood, Phoebe Hampson and Theo Haslam.

Those swimmers with a top 6 finish were: Alex Din (3rd 400 Free’), Chloe Dobb (6th 400 Free’), Felicity Hamilton-Cox (3rd 100 Breast’), Phoebe Hampson (5th 200 Breast’), Theo Haslam (3rd 50 Back’, 2nd 100 Breast’, 5th 100 Back’, 2nd 50 Breast’, 4th 50 Fly’, 5th 50 Free’).

Well done again to everyone who took part.

MAY 2010 – London Youth Champs & Beckenham Open

Beckenham Open 2010

The weekend of 9th/10th May saw another very successful competition at Crystal Palace. 18 swimmers represented Bromley SC in 56 events. Of these swims 82% were long course personal best times, and we achieved a top 6 finish in almost a quarter of them.

Beckenham open meet is a Level 1 open- the highest level of competition you can get to in an open meet format. This means it attracts top swimmers, many of whom attend in the hopes of achieving their national times, so Bromley faced some very tough competition.

Congratulations to all PB achievers, and special congratulations to those of you who were swimming in a long-course pool for the first time either this weekend or last weekend at the London Regional Championships. Many swimmers achieved a PB in every race they swum: a very good effort from you all. PBs were achieved by:
Robert Shorter (50 Breast’, 50 Back’, 100 Free’, 200 Free’, 200 IM), Theo Haslam (50 & 100 Fly’, 50 & 100 Back’, 50, 100 & 200 Breast’, 50 & 100 Free’), Alex Din (50, 100 & 200 Back’, 50 & 100 Free’), Cameron Butler (50 Fly’, 50 Free’), Ethan Reeves (50 Breast’, 50 Back’, 50 & 100 Free’), Richard Knight (50 Fly’, 100 Back’, 50 & 100 Free’).
Chloe Dobb (50 Free’), Louisa Knight (50 Free’), Taylor McCarthy (50 Free’, 50 Breast’, 100 Back’, 200 IM), Jade Hewitt (50 Free’, 50 Back’, 50 Breast’, 100 Back’), Gabby Eastment (50 Breast’), Henri Shorter (50 Free’, 50 Fly’, 200 Free’), Holly Barnes (50 Free’), Felicity Hamilton-Cox (50 Fly’), Hailey Pearcey (50 Breast’), Emily Bone (50 Breast’).

Top-6 finishes were achieved by Theo Haslam (2nd in 50 Breast’, 100 Breast’ and 50 Fly’, 3rd in 100 Fly’, 4th in 50 Back’ and 100 Free’, 5th in 50 Free’), Ethan Reeves (4th in 50 Breast’), Oliver Lister (6th in 100 Breast’), Felicity Hamilton-Cox (1st in 100 Breast’), Abbie Regelous (5th in 50 Breast’) and Emily Bone (1st 50 Breast, 4th 50 Fly’).

Well done to everyone who swum, I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. The full results can be found on Beckenham SC’s website or by clicking ::here::

London Youth Championships

This year’s London Youth Championships were our most successful to date with our highest number of entrants (9 swimmers) competing in our highest number of entries (24 races). 67% of our swimmers made finals in their events- an excellent result that ensured Bromley SC really made an impression.

Well done to all finalists; Benedict Kelleher(50m Backstroke & 200m Backstroke), Oliver Reynolds (50m Backstroke and 1st reserve for 100m Backstroke), James Brinkley (50m Backstroke), Gina Deave (50m, 100m & 200m Breaststroke, 50m Fly), Felicity Hamilton-Cox (50m & 100m Breaststroke), Emily Bone (50m & 100m Breaststroke and 1st reserve for 50m Butterfly).  The London Youth Championships only award medals to the top three in each final but Bromley managed to walk away with three 3rd places (Ben 50 Back’, Oliver 50 Back’ and Felicity 50 Breaststroke) and one 2nd place (Gina 50 Breaststroke).

Every single swimmer who competed this weekend achieved a long-course personal best time: Gina Deave (50m, 100m & 200m Breaststroke), Felicity Hamilton-Cox (50m Breaststroke), Emily Bone (50m Breaststroke), Abbie Regelous (50m Breaststroke), James Brinkley (50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke), Oliver Reynolds (50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle), Ben Kelleher (50m, 100m & 200m Backstroke, 50m Freestyle), Oliver Lister (100m Breaststroke & 50m Freestyle), Alex Lister(50m Breaststroke).

Underlying these excellent results is the fact that these swimmers all qualified for the Regionals; an achievement in itself. I hope over the years that more swimmers will get to this level; it is a very enjoyable weekend with top class performances from the biggest and most elite teams in London. Bromley SC is a much smaller club than the major players at the London’s and the fact that our swimmers still managed to make such a big impact is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Well done to everyone who competed, keep up the good work.

DECEMBER 2009 - WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

Another great team performance in the final play-off round of the National Arena League South saw Bromley Swimming Club win the Division Two East title with maximum points.

It was a very exciting and close gala, which saw Bromley in second place after the opening 10 events. With a string of great swims in the middle section, Bromley clawed their way to first place by the end of the individual events.

However, RTW Monson closed the gap during the relays and with two events to go, they were back in front by one point. Bromley’s ladies’ open team then bought the scores level by winning the 6x50m freestyle relay in a club record time. So it all came down to the final event and Bromley’s men’s open team didn't disappoint, leading from start to finish, claiming victory by a single point. Bromley enjoyed 14 individual and relay wins, 38 top three finishes and 14 personal bests, of which three were new club records.

The Bromley squad celebrate their triumph!
