Great results everyone. Well done. David Court -- Brighton Open Meet Report - jan 2011 On the weekend of 14th/15th January, several Bromley swimmers travelled down to Brighton to compete in the Brighton Open. It is always useful to enter a competition at around this time to 'blow out the cobwebs', get some good race practice before Kent's, and for some of our swimmers it was their last opportunity to achieve a County Championship qualifying time. Every single swimmer who competed achieved a personal best time. Alex Din competed in 100 Free (PB), 100 Back, 100 Fly, 200 Back (PB) and 200 IM (PB). Chloe Dobb competed in 100 Free (PB), 100 Back (PB) and 200 IM where she achieved a four second personal best time. Felicity Hamilton-Cox swam a 2 second PB in the 200 Breaststroke coming 1st and also competed in the 100 Free. Tanglin Ireland competed in the 200 IM where he swam a 7 second PB and also achieved his Kent qualifying time. Heather Perfect swam in the 100 Free, 100 Fly and 50 Free where she achieved a PB. Ethan Reeves swam a PB in both the 100 Free and 50 Free and also competed in the 100 Br/s. Ellen Scholes competed in 100 Breaststroke and swam a 2 second PB in the 200 IM. Georgina Ward achieved a PB in all three of her events; 50 Free, 200 Free (where she swam a 9 second PB) and 200 Breaststroke (which was a 16 second PB). Vicky Ward competed in the 100 Free where she took 4th place, 100 Back, 200 Free, 200 IM and 50 Free where she swam a PB and also came 4th which automatically qualified her for the Skins event. The Skins event involves the 6 fastest 50 freestylers racing over 5 lots of 50 metres freestyle every 90 seconds. After each 50 metres the slowest swimmer of the 6 competing is 'knocked out of the competition'. The Skins event is a very exciting and difficult event for which the swimmers need to be very skilled. Vicky did excellently coming 5th overall, with both 50s being very close to her PB. It was a very enjoyable weekend and it was great to see our swimmers doing so well at this time of year. Well done to everyone who swam. As you can see Open meets are a great way to swim events you don't
normally enter and to keep your times up-to-date. Please look out for David Court -- whiteoak open - october 2010 On the 3rd of October four Bromley swimmers competed in the White Oak Open and achieved some excellent results. Felix Haslam competed in the 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle, coming first in the butterfly and freestyle, joint first in the backstroke and second place in the breaststroke. Felix also swam PBs in three of his four events, a great achievement. Louisa Knight achieved a very credible 3rd place in the 100m Butterfly. Matthew Knight competed in the 100m Freestyle and finished in sixth place with a personal best time. Finally Richard Knight competed in the 100m Freestyle and the 100m IM achieving a second and third place respectively. Well done to all four swimmers for doing so well this early on in the season. David Court --Thanet open meet - july 2010 Six swimmers took part in the Thanet Open on the 10th July. It was a separated medley event where all swimmers were required to swim either 50m (for the 10 & unders) or 100m (for the over 10s) of each stroke. The aggregate scores were then counted and the top 6 swimmers in each age group went through to the final where they had to swim either 100m or 200m IM. Well done to all six swimmers, Tanglin Ireland, Robert Shorter, Alex Din, Vicky Ward, Nicola Kleist and Henrietta Shorter for braving all four strokes. Every swimmer achieved at least one significant PB so it was worth the effort. Tanglin Ireland came first in all four of his 50m swims and went through to the final to win the 100m IM. Robert Shorter came 4th in his freestyle and breaststroke and 5th in his backstroke, and completed a 200m IM coming 5th in the final. Alex Din achieved three 3rd places and a 4th and came 4th overall in the 200m IM final. Nicola Kleist, competing in her first ever open meet, did very well coming 6th in the 200m IM final in a personal best time and Henri Shorter went through to the 200m IM final and achieved 5th place. A very successful weekend for you all and very enjoyable for me to see you swimming strokes you might not normally swim. Well done to you all. Report by David Court (July 2010) -- Black Lion Open Meet - June 2010 On the 22nd/23rd May Bromley Swimming Club took part in the Black Lion Open Meet. This was a level 2 open meet and an excellent opportunity for some of our younger and less experienced swimmers to get some race practice as well as for our older swimmers who missed out on competing in the London Regional Championships or Beckenham open meet in the preceding weeks. 18 swimmers from Bromley competed in 48 events with a very respectable 54% of those swims being PBs. It was good to see so many of the younger swimmers taking part and trying new events. Well done to all of our young swimmers; Joe Dobb, Michael Eagling, Phoebe Hampson, Felix Haslam and Joel Woodward. PB achievers were: Alex Din, Cameron Butler, Chloe Dobb, Ellen Scholes, Felix Haslam, Jade Hewitt, Joe Dobb, Katie Lockwood, Michael Eagling, Nick Lockwood, Phoebe Hampson and Theo Haslam. Those swimmers with a top 6 finish were: Alex Din (3rd 400 Free’), Chloe Dobb (6th 400 Free’), Felicity Hamilton-Cox (3rd 100 Breast’), Phoebe Hampson (5th 200 Breast’), Theo Haslam (3rd 50 Back’, 2nd 100 Breast’, 5th 100 Back’, 2nd 50 Breast’, 4th 50 Fly’, 5th 50 Free’). Well done again to everyone who took part Report by David Court (May 2010) -- Beckenham Open 2010 -- Orpington Open 2010 & Crawley Open 2010 Crawley Open Meet (Long-course) also took place this weekend and we had three swimmers competing. Both Felicity Hamilton-Cox and Gina Deave achieved Long Course PBs, Felicity in the 100m Breaststroke and Gina in the 200m Breaststroke. Opens provide a great opportunity for swimmers to compete in events of their choice against swimmers of similar ability from other clubs, to achieve personal best times and hopefully win medals or trophies. The Club will organise entry in approximately 6 Opens a year. The next meet is; |
