Kent Championships Gala 2 - February 2011

Saturday 12th February saw a very successful opening weekend to the 2011 Kent Championships. With nine personal best swims, one new club record and a total of 59 points amassed from 17 events, Bromley swimmers came out fighting.

Special congratulations to those swimmers with a top six finish who earned their team points:

James Brinkley made his first Kent final in the 100 Backstroke, coming 5th in the open age-group and 3rd in the 17/18 age-group. He also achieved a 5th place in his age-group 200 Freestyle and just missed out on the top six in the 50 breaststroke, where he came 7th. James swam PBs in all three events.

Oliver Lister earned his place again in the Open 50 Breaststroke final, having swum a PB in the heat and coming 1st in his age-group. He came fourth in the Open age-group.

Ben Kelleher just missed out on 6th place in the 50 Breaststroke in a PB time. He also competed in the 100 Backstroke where he came 2nd in his age-group. Unfortunately he was unavailable for the Open final which would have secured his 3rd place in the Junior age-group as well as gaining him points in the Open age-group.

Theo Haslam earned a 3rd place in the 200 Breaststroke, and was crowned county champion for the 100 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle. He performed PBs in both the Breaststroke and the Freestyle.

Matthew Rogers came 3rd in the 200 Breaststroke, swimming an excellent 8 second PB. He also competed in the 50m Freestyle.

Felicity Hamilton-Cox competed in the 100 IM as well as the 200 Breaststroke in which she came 1st in her age-group and 3rd in the open age-group.

The Men's Open Medley team broke Bromley SC history by finishing in second place. The team, comprising of Ben Kelleher, Oliver Lister, Sean Perfect and James Brinkley, also broke the club record, making them the fastest Men's Open Medley team in Bromley's history. Well done men.

Congratulations to all of those who achieved a personal best, including those of you who are mentioned above as well as: Victoria Ward who swam a 3 second PB in the 100 Backstroke, Holly Barnes in the 100 Fly and Chloe Dobb, whose personal best in the 400 Free was also a London Regional qualifying time.

Finally, well done to James Lockwood and John Furness who also represented the club in the 50 Breaststroke.

A great weekend for all our swimmers, you did yourselves and Bromley proud. Let's keep it up for the rest of the championships.

2010

This year we had one lonely soul competing at the Kent Masters championships but he did us all proud.

Our new recruit Damian Locascio competed in his age group 50 'fly, 100 IM and 50 free', winning all three events.

Most notably, Damian took the county record for the 40-44 years 50 'fly in 28.36, smashing the old record of 28.80 which has stood since 1993.

It would be great to try to get a bigger masters presence there next year! If you know any keen adult swimmers who are looking to train or compete, please point them our way.

The Kent County Championships 2010 have come to an end and we have had a very successful year. We got off to an excellent start with the highest number of individual entries in the club’s history, and went on to achieve 75 top 6 finishes garnering 221 points overall, which puts us in the top 10 clubs in Kent.

Congratulations to all medal winners who helped us get those points;
Gina Deave with 16 top 6 finishes (two 1st places, four 2nd places, one 3rd place, two 4th places, six 5th places and one 6th place)
Felicity Hamilton-Cox with 12 top 6 finishes (one 1st place, three 2nd places, two 3rd places, two 5th places, and four 6th places)
Theo Haslam with 10 top 6 finishes (one 1st place, one 2nd place, one 3rd place, three 4th places, three 5th places and one 6th place)
Benedict Kelleher with 5 top 6 finishes (one 1st place, three 2nd places, and one 5th place)

Oliver Lister with 5 top 6 finishes (two 2nd places, one 3rd place, and two 6th places)

Joe Dobb with 1 top 6 finish (5th place)
Oliver Reynolds with 1 top 6 finish (6th place)
Phoebe Hampson with 1 top 6 finish (6th place)

Unfortunately the points system does not recognise the number of entries, only those who finish in the top six. But I would like to congratulate every swimmer who competed for the effort they have put into their training leading up to the competition and the effort they put into their races. We had many more top 10 finishes and there were some excellent races. Across the weekends we saw 67 personal best swims and eight new individual club records- a brilliant achievement.

We also had our first ever Senior Event Best Performance swim by Gina Deave in the 200m Breaststroke. Gina also retained her title as Open Kent Champion.

Special congratulations go to those swimmers who were competing for the first time at a county level: Phoebe Boanas-Evans, Joe Dobb, Phoebe Hampson, Tanglin Ireland, Richard Knight, Nick Lockwood, Ethan Reeves, Grace Scopes, Tommy Scopes, and Emma Wade. Well done to you for all of your hard work and achievements. Keep up the good work!

Bromley also fared well in the Kent relays setting 12 new relay club records (all relay records will be added to the club website ASAP). We achieved 7 top six finishes overall including:
The girls 15/16 Individual Medley team (4th): Lucy Morgan, Felicity Hamilton-Cox, Holly Barnes, Stephanie Din.

Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to the club’s officials, John Knapman, Kathy Hook and Della Hamilton-Cox, who helped out on poolside.
