JACK PETCHEY FOUNDATION ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

Jack Petchey was born in July 1925 in the East End of London, England. From a background with very few advantages he became a prominent businessman and property developer.

In 1945 at the end of the Second World War Jack Petchey left the Navy and became a clerk. He was told by the personnel officer of his firm: "You'll never make a businessman".

However, this discouraging remark did not prevent him from becoming one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Britain.

The Jack Petchey Foundation, established in 1999, gives grants to programmes and projects that benefit young people aged 11 – 25.

In July 2008 Bromley Swimming Club was accepted as part of the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Award Scheme. Bromley Swimming Club is part ofthe Gold Scheme for organizations with over 100 active youth members.

Nine times per year, one young person is nominated to receive an Achievement Award Certificate and a cheque for £200 made payable to the Club to be spent on equipment and projects other than the normal running costs of the Club. The Award is to recognize either personal achievements or doing something really positive for other people. The decision on how the money is spent is taken in consultation with the winner. The award winners must be in the age group 11-25 and can only receive one award during their time at the Club.

An annual presentation of boxed medallions takes place for all winners to date. The awards will be made either by a representative of the foundation, or another VIP. The presentation of the Leader Award and cheque of £1000 will also be presented at this event.
